Discussion:
rndis or eth ?

Recently, I upgraded my kernel to a new release, this change the network
interface of my device !

Is it important that my windows mobile has allways a rndis* interface in
ifconfig, or is it usable through a eth* ?

If no, I think I should use udev to create a symlink between eth1 and rndis*,
is that right ? Anyone know the correct rule ?

If yes, how do I make synce and related softwares to know this network
interface ?

Thanks in advance !

It doesn't matter. If you have firewall rules you may need to adjust
them, but it won't affect synce directly.

Recently, I don't know why, my rndis interface comes back, and I can sync my
winCE device again ! (Comes back since ~ 1 week and first full synchro
yesterday).

Perhaps, but currently, I can't access to my device with synce, using synce-
hal !

16:38:21 ***@luciole:~ $ synce-list-programs
** Message: Hal reports no devices connected
** Message: Odccm is not running, ignoring
synce-list-programs: Unable to initialize RAPI: An unspecified failure has
occurred

I have checked my firewall, and nothing blocks that.

But hal reports many things ! (maybe 30 messages, concerning udev, rndis or
others...)

I found something !
When I plug the device before booting (old school manner ! what a pity !), I
get something :

Ah, that's different, you should've said it didn't work ! The interface
name change doesn't matter, so isn't the problem, but that doesn't mean
there isn't another problem.

I need the output of dmesg and the log entries from hal.

Recently, I upgraded my kernel to a new release, this change the
network interface of my device !
It doesn't matter. If you have firewall rules you may need to adjust
them, but it won't affect synce directly.
Post by Stéphane Guedon
Is it important that my windows mobile has allways a rndis*
interface in ifconfig, or is it usable through a eth* ?
If no, I think I should use udev to create a symlink between
eth1 and
rndis*, is that right ? Anyone know the correct rule ?
If yes, how do I make synce and related softwares to know this
network interface ?
Thanks in advance !
Perhaps, but currently, I can't access to my device with synce, using
synce- hal !
** Message: Hal reports no devices connected
** Message: Odccm is not running, ignoring
synce-list-programs: Unable to initialize RAPI: An unspecified failure
has occurred
I have checked my firewall, and nothing blocks that.
But hal reports many things ! (maybe 30 messages, concerning udev, rndis
or others...)
Ah, that's different, you should've said it didn't work ! The interface
name change doesn't matter, so isn't the problem, but that doesn't mean
there isn't another problem.
I need the output of dmesg and the log entries from hal.
Mark
Have you an idea concerning my problem ? Do you need more clues than what I
send you some days ago ?

Thanks

OK. I don't have any daemon.log on my gentoo !

The attachement are what you want. I used logtail this time, so I can tell you
this is exactly what happened just after plugging the device.

(I launch logtail /var/log/messages, I plug in the device, and then relaunch
logtail. This second time print what happend since the last logtail, so you
have all what a hotplug produce in log !)

Best regards !

get something :
